Queen Elizabeth Commonwealth Scholarships (QECS)
Applications are now open for the Queen Elizabeth Commonwealth Scholarships (QECS). QECS is a unique opportunity to study a two-year Master’s degree in a low or middle-income Commonwealth country.
The scholarships are aimed at students who are committed to creating change in their communities. They are a life-changing opportunity to experience a new country and culture, to broaden horizons, and to build a global network that will last a lifetime.
Queen Elizabeth Commonwealth Scholarship Benefits/Awards
Queen Elizabeth Commonwealth Scholarships award recipients will receive the following benefits:
- Fully-funded tuition fees;
- Living expenses allowance (stipend) for duration of award;
- Return economy flights to their host country;
- An arrival allowance;
- Research support grant. Note that this grant is on request only. It is subject to approval.
Eligibility Requirements for QECS
- Queen Elizabeth Commonwealth Scholarships is open to Citizens of Commonwealth countries or those who hold refugee status in a Commonwealth country.
- Applicants are to apply for the scholarship award in a country other than their home country. For instance, a Ghanaian should not apply to study in Ghana.
- The scholarship is open to all regardless of age. That’s to say that there is no upper age limit to be eligible
- Applicants must have already completed their degree and should have graduated with an equivalent of a 2:1 at the time of application.
- Supporting documents and other requirements can be gotten from the websites of the various partner Universities. In addition to this, you will provide a copy of your final transcript and degree certificate.
How to Apply for Queen Elizabeth Commonwealth Scholarships
The following are steps you must complete before submitting your application:
- Review the available courses and entry requirements
- Check QECS application guidance
- Check that the course you are applying for is available at your selected university
- Register an MyACU account if you don’t have one. Otherwise, proceed to step 6.
- Follow the instructions in the registration email to set up an account.
- Then login to MyACU account here
Note that applicants are required to submit a university application at the same time as their scholarship application, unless stated otherwise
Applicants can’t apply more than once to the same university. If applicants submit two applications for the same university, only the first application will be considered.

Entry requirements:
Applicants should hold one of the following:
- A bachelor’s degree in relevant field with a minimum CGPA of 2.750
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent with a CGPA in the range of 2.500 to CGPA 2.749, and must have a minimum of three years of working experience in a relevant field or subject to a rigorous internal assessment by the faculty or institute
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent with below CGPA of 2.500 and must have a minimum of five years of working experience in the relevant field
An applicant who is in the final semester of their bachelor study may be considered for a provisional admission provided that their latest CGPA – or its equivalent – meets the postgraduate programme admission requirements.
International applicants are required to meet the UPM English requirement with a minimum score of 6.0 for IELTS or equivalent.

7. Mauritius: University of Mauritius

Master of Public Health (MPH) – one year full-time programme
Entry requirements:
For medically qualified applicants: MBBS, MBChB or equivalent
Successful completion of an undergraduate degree with:
- At least a second class or 50%, whichever is applicable or;
- A GPA not less than 2.5 out of 4 or equivalent, from a recognised higher education institution or;
- Alternative qualifications acceptable to the University of Mauritius.
For non-medically qualified applicants:
- An upper second class degree or equivalent or a BDS degree and two years of experience in public health, health promotion, health administration, occupational and environmental health experience, clinical research or other health- related fields or;
- Alternative qualifications acceptable to the University of Mauritius
Suitable candidates should have a strong academic record with adequate quantitative skills and a background in medicine, health sciences, biological sciences or environmental sciences.
