King Abdullahi University of Science and Technology

King Abdullahi University of Science and Technology is a private international graduate level research university established in 2009 in Thuwal, Saudi Arabia. It is the first mixed-up university based on gender in Saudi Arabia.

The University is mostly dominated by people who are interested in achieving a successful career for their future, people who have intentions to go beyond their present level and focus on proffering solutions to problems related to their field of study.

It consists of basically graduate studies by providing graduates with materials for research and other education trainings in engineering, science and technology.

King Abdullahi University of Science and Technology harbour students from all over the world notwithstanding their culture or languages. However, in the university, English language is the language adopted for teaching and learning.
The vision of the University is to be a destination for scientific and technological education and research through discovering, ways to address global challenges bothering on the environment and ways to solve them.

They also have a vision to serve as a beacon of knowledge that bridge people and cultures for the betterment of humanity.

This vision has thereby create the values of passion, inspiration, diversity, integrity and openness, and had impacted in people who are willing to imbibe and uphold them.

The KAUST consist of a lively environment for studying, working and living, core science laboratories and other research centers.
The campus is designed to be comfortable for the students and staff to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle especially with the state-of-the-art fitness facilities, high standard accommodation and casual restaurants that helps to motivate people living around.

1. KAUST Campus

The KAUST Campus is situated at the Red Sea in Thuwal, Saudi Arabia. It comprises of the academic sector for study where research facilities are located, the museum, the library and the residential areas. .

Members of the KAUST Community are opportune to stay in accommodation that are furnished with basic amenities and things for upkeep and maintenance.

Some of them are townhouses and villas. The University is a mixed-gender university thereby permitting women to attend classes without veils together with males.

2. KAUST Beacon

KAUST Beacon is the focal point in KAUST that connects with the main campus. It has a design that is inspired by the coral form of the red sea consisting of 197 blocks and 18ton\’s of weight.

It signifies the value of the University and it\’s purpose which is to stand as a beacon of peace, hope and reconciliation, and shall serve the people of the Kingdom of the world.

3. Research Centers

The KAUST Campus also have the research centers for the advancement of technology and science, and to focus on solving problems whose solution is not known by investing in engineering, solar and alternative energy, clean combustion, computational science, biosciences and environment.

One of the major research centers in the university is core laboratories. This laboratory facilities are available for practical research on various fields of science and technology, it facilitates their research and provide essential training services needed.

KAUST has a total of 10 laboratories, some are; Supercomputing Core Lab, Nano Fabrication Core Lab, Analytical Chemistry Core Lab, Coastal and Marine Resources Core Lab, Bioscience Core Lab, Imaging and Characterization Core Lab etc.

4. Academics

KAUST does not only focus on graduate studies but is dedicated in offering quality education to the kindergarten, elementary and secondary learner\’s.

The Kindergarten is located at the harbour area and the elementary and secondary is located at the garden area of the University.

These kids from the age of 8weeks are given a platform to expose their mindset into science and technology by training them to learn, discover and experiment.

They are exposed to the theoretical and practical aspects of subjects topics. These training are given by highly educated and passionate persons who give their time and effort in supporting these children and giving them the care and attention they need to have an exciting and a successful life in school through their graduation.

The graduate studies also is one of the best training ground for those who are done with college and wants an advancement in their education, who has an intention to increase their achievements and find solutions to challenging issues in the world.

Furthermore, tuition fee in KAUST is not required as every students join the KAUST fellowship at admission. Thus, academic programs for undergraduates are free but for graduate students, it is not specified, each would certainly have its cost.

Admissions

  • Acceptance rate: 20-30%

In KAUST, students come from different parts of the globe irrespective of the national diversity and culture making it open for more views as to the different sociocultural challenges affecting the development of science and technology. However, gaining admission into this prestigious university can have its obstacles. Although, the minimum GPA is 3.5 but to be admitted as a graduate student, you must have gotten support from a PhD advisor, you must have graduated from one of the top universities in your country, you must have passed the TOEFL examination, either demonstrate proficiency in English or acquired a degree in the United Kingdom, United States of America, Canada or Australia.

Also, it is merit based. Thus, if an applicant may not have gotten these requirements but has passed the interview at the admission board, he or she can make it into the university.

Administrative bodies

The administrative bodies in KAUST consist of the Tony F. Chan as the President, Suliaman M. Al-Thunayan as the Vice-president of government affairs, Dr Teofilo Abrajano as the Chief of Staff to the president, Dr Najah Y. Ashry as the Senior Associate to the president and Vice President of Strategic National Advancement, Dr David Keyes as the Senior Associate to the President, Strategic Priorities and Global positioning, Kevin Cullen as the Vice President of Innovation and Economic Development.

Others are Mathew Early as the Vice President, facilities management, Robert Fekete as the Chief Financial Officer, Jason Roos as the Chief Information Officer, Samer Samman as the Chief Human Resources Officer, Chris Sealey as the Vice President of Community Life and the Board of trustees which include professors in the University.
